Oh oh! ... We're overweight!

Today is the last day before we head off tomorrow. Had a 4am start to knock over the last of my bank rec's so that I could prepare the latest BAS report and lodge my payment before heading away. It had occurred to me that if I was away when it fell due, would the ATO simply accept that I was going to be late submitting the BAS because I was on holidays? I didn't want to find out, so I figured I'm better off to get it in to them a few weeks early, than a late.

Now that I've finished the last of my business commitments, I'm now just enjoying the last day tinkering with the bike (that means giving it a wash) and making sure we have packed everything we're going to need.

After loading everything into the trailer so that things fitted nicely, I discovered that we're a bit overweight. I'd been advised by fellow Ulysses club members that tow bike trailers that I should aim for around 20kgs of weight on the tow ball. Otherwise it has a detrimental effect on a bikes handling. When I put the scales under the draw bar this morning I found I was closer to 30kgs ... Not good!

So I've spent part of the morning mucking around reorganising where things can go and have managed to get the weight down to a more respectable 22kgs. I then took the bike and trailer for a quick test ride to fuel up and check tyre pressures, and it all seems rather good, though I'm still trying to understand though why when I dropped one of our pillows it landed on the only spot of grease there was on the garage floor? ... That Murphy guy with his laws is a prick!

The weather is looking a bit iffy again here in Brisbane, but the forecast for tomorrow is that the overnight rain will clear early. I'm hoping by "early" they mean around 7am? I'm doubting that, so I'm anticipating we'll be leaving home dressed in our wet weather gear.

We're both really looking forward to getting away now. Can't wait for tomorrow to roll around.

Finally, a couple of friends mentioned that they tried to post comments to the blog yesterday but couldn't. I've played around with the settings a bit today, and have hopefully resolved that issue.
